Getting Started

    I am a beginner, what class should I start in?

    A

    Any of our Kickboxing, Submission Grappling and CombatFIT classes are a great place for beginners to get started. Check out our Schedule for class times.

    I have no experience. Do you have classes for me?

    A

    The majority of our members start with no experience. Our classes will introduce you to the basics in a supportive environment and allow you to advance at your own pace.

    Can I observe a class?

    A

    We welcome potential members to observe class before signing up. However we offer your first class free and encourage those interested to give it a try. There is no better way to see if we are a good fit for you.

    What if I am out of shape?

    A

    Then it is the perfect time to begin! We have members of all fitness levels. Our classes are designed to help you get into the best shape of your life in a practical, healthy and fun way. Whether you want to lose weight, gain muscle, or just have more physical stamina and energy, we will help motivate you and keep you motivated toward your fitness goals.

Taking Classes

  1. Q

    What should I wear?

    A

    Wear something easy to move around. Shorts or sweats and a T-shirt always work well. There are no shoes allowed in the training area. The only exception is indoor only shoes during CombatFIT. We recommend removing your socks during training.

    Do I need to buy any equipment?

    A

    We have all the equipment you will need available for you to use during class. Most long term members will choose to purchase there own equipment.

    Will I get punched in the face?

    A

    Only if you want to! And not until you are ready! We teach real kickboxing techniques that work in real time. Many of our members choose to do live kickboxing rounds after they have learned appropriate defensive techniques. However, no one is forced into live rounds. Many of our members train with us only for fitness and choose not to participate in this aspect of training.

    Can my husband, boyfriend, best friend, sister, mother, father or anyone else come watch class?

    A

    We love that you want to share your passion with your family and friends, however due to limited space, potential distraction and member comfort we ask that non-members wait outside the studio while class is in session. A sitting area is available in the hallway. The only exception to this policy is for potential new members observing class or parents considering signing up their minor child.

Cost

    How much do classes cost?

    A

    This depends on how many classes you attend per week as well as your membership type preference. You can find our current rates on our tuition page.

    Why does a One Month Prepaid Membership cost more than the Monthly Memberships?

    A

    We rely on commitment from our members to keep our doors open. We also try our hardest to keep our tuition affordable for everyone. Our Monthly Memberships lower cost takes into consideration life circumstances occasionally getting in the way of the regular attendance of our long term members.

    Are there any additional fees?

    A

    The prices shown on our Tuition page are the prices you will pay for your membership. We do not have any hidden costs. The only additional cost would be if you choose to purchase your own equipment (we also provide this for class), participate in tournaments and other related events or attend One-on-One lessons. These are optional.

    Will my tuition ever go up?

    A

    As one of the ways we thank our long term members, as long as your membership is kept current, in good standing, you will maintain the same membership rate as you signed with throughout your membership.

Competition

    What is required of me if I want to compete as a member of G.I.R.L.S. Gym?

    A

    You can find our requirements for MMA, Kickboxing and Submission Grappling competitions on our Competitions Policy Page.

    I do not want to compete. Is this the right place for me?

    A

    Absolutely. Most people take our classes as a way to get in shape while having fun, learn something new or gain confidence. While we do have competitors, competition is not the main focus of our programs.

Membership

    Do you have a contract?

    A

    We do not have any long term contracts. In order to budget effectively we require 30 days written notice to cancel a Monthly Membership. Prepaid and Punch Card Memberships terminate automatically and do not require any notice

    I pay for two classes per week but am going out of town. Can I make up the missed classes?

    A

    We welcome all Monthly Membership holders to make up missed classes. We ask that you try to make up classes within a month of your absence.

    I am going to be out of town for a month. How should I handle my membership?

    A

    We do not require any long term contracts therefore monthly memberships can be terminated with 30 days notice. However, we rely on membership payments to keep our doors open. For instance, if half of our members are out of town most of the summer (very common) and therefore cancelled their membership, it would be difficult for us to keep our doors open for their return in the fall. We keep our membership prices low and do not require contracts with the understanding members may miss classes or need to cancel due to life circumstances. We always welcome members to make up missed classes. Please keep this in mind when considering terminating your membership for a temporary leave of absence.

    How do I terminate my membership?

    A

    We require a 30 day written notice to cancel monthly memberships. The best way to do this is to e-mail us.
